Biography

1776 Project
Lt. William Stoddert served with 4th Maryland Regiment (1776), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

William Truman Stoddert, the son of John Truman Stoddert and Lucy Heabard Smallwood, was born in 1751. He died in Charles County MD in 1793. [1]

William served as a Lieutenant in the American Revolution with the Maryland 4th Regiment. [2][3] There is a portrait miniature of him by the famous artist Charles Willson Peale.[4]

I, William Truman Stoddert of CC being sick and weak in body but of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding

To wife Sally Stoddert the following tracts of land, viz; one moiety of Southampton Enlarged, Addition to Southampton adjoining to each other lying in Pomonkey neck on Pomonkey Creek, my dwelling plantation commonly known as the name of Simpson lying on Potomack River at Smiths Point in Nanjemoy, Wiccowoman adjoining the afd land called Simpson, part of William and James, lying in upper Cedar Point Neck, tract of land lying in the fork of Zachia called Wolf's Den

To wife Sally Stoddert, all my personal estate

I have reason to believe I have a first right and am entitled to a tract of land lying in Baltimore County now in the possession of a certain John Hall and as I am desirous that the said land shall descend to my wife Sally after my decease, I do therefore give and bequeath to my said wife Sally Stoddert all my right and title to the land aforesaid.
