Virginia Warriors
- This page was created as a finding aide for projects, categories, and pages related to Virginia Warriors — those who fought for Virginia from its earliest days on through modern wars, when fighting in defense of your home expanded to defending your homeland far from your own home.
- The primary project for the military, militias, and battles throughout the ages is the Military and War Project. Its top-level category and subcategory United States Military History have oodles of links worth exploring.
- The Military and War Project creates and maintains categories related to Virginia, and assigns the parent ccategory of Virginia as appropriate. "The Military and War project created the war categories for all 50 states in a particular structure. The war categories are all nested under individual states, as well as by their armies." The following narration has some links that will also be listed below. These Military and War categories should all be findable at Category:Virginia, under "V".
War Between the States
- Category:Virginia is listed under Confederate States of America (which is under "United States Civil War" - aka "the Late War" and "the War of Northern Aggression", a name developed during the Jim Crow era). See also Category:Reconstruction, Civil War Project Resource Page, Confederate Navy, and United States Civil War Conflicts. They are not listed below, but may be of interest and have helpful links, such as the National Park Service's Soldiers and Sailors Database.
- For POWs, both Union and Confederate, see Category: Prisoners of War, United States Civil War. For POW camps run by the Union, see this category, and this one for Confederate-run camps; both can be found under Category:American Civil War POW Camps.
World Wars
- Virginia warriors of World Wars I and II would be categorized by their branch of Service instead of by State, so check out United States Armed Forces for appropriate categories.
Other
- There are also categories specific to those wars, and others - see the links under United States Military History.
- As you explore the links, be sure to check out any "Resource Pages" you come across. But sometimes great resources are found on the category page - such as the link to a WikiSource list of units by State found on Category:Spanish-American War. And other times you'll discover a treasure trove on a top-level category (always click around in the categories list at the top of a page).
