Entered service July 7, 1779; discharged Sep 12, 1779. Service 2 months, 6 days on Penobscot Expedition. Although the online lineage entitled Descendants of John Alden - Sixth Generation suggests that John Soule died at sea, his FindAGrave profile lists him as passing in Freeport Maine. The monument doesn't have any dates on it, it could be a monument in memorial of John Soule but no burial there. The inscription at the base of the stone indicates that the monument was erected by the Honorable Rufus Soule in memory of Captain John Soule, his wife Elizabeth and two of their sons.^[10][3]
