Biography

Shelley was born on 19 February 1905, probably in Franklin County, Virginia, where she appears in the 1910 census. She was the fifth of six daughters and at least ten children.^[1][2]

Shelley Smithers Prickett, 81, of Grattan Street, Harrisonburg died Friday at the Bridgewater Home, where she had lived for the past 4 years. She and her husband, William F. Prickett, owned and operated Prickett Stationery Corp. in Harrisonburg for a number of years. Mr. Prickett died May 6,1964. Mrs. Prickett was born Feb. 19, 1905, in Rocky Mount and was a daughter of the late Thomas J. and Wootsey Donovan Smithers. Surviving are a brother, Marshall D. Smithers of Kannapolis, N.C.; and three sisters, Ruby Poole of Roanoke, Katherine Clark of Richmond and Ann Mann of Cleveland, Ohio. The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home by the Rev. Randolph M. Bragg. Burial will be in the Woodbine Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1-2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. (Daily News-Record, Harrisonburg, VA, Saturday, January 24, 1987)
