  • First-hand information. Entered by Larry Singer at registration.

I was born in Charlotte, N.C. I went to several schools in the city as we moved every two years, but we always stayed on the westside of town. I graduated from West Mecklenburg High School in 1965, worked for six months and enlisted in the Air Force. First assignment was to the St. Lawrence Island (Bering Strait), Alaska. From there (1967) I was sent to London, England. I lived in England for many years and married my first wife in London. We have one son living here in North Carolina. We are all avid travelers and spend as much time as possible doing so, I have lived in or visited more than 40 countries. I have one brother that lives in Neptune Beach, Florida.

My dad was from the Boston area and my mom was from Spartanburg, South Carolina. They met during WWII and got married eventually. He was a salesman during his working years and my mom a legal secretary.

My wife is from Minnesota and we have been married 36 years. She spent 12 years with me in the military. We retired in 1993 after 23 years service. I was a major that had spent 9 years as an enlisted man. During my military career, I was a logistics and contracting officer and in my earlier enlisted years, a supply NCO.

Following my military retirement, I taught school in Panama City, Florida. I retired from teaching after 12 years and moved up to Cornelius (outside of Charlotte), N.C. Besides traveling, I am a huge walker, love to socialize with my friends, and am crazy about ocean fishing. My wife and I travel to Europe almost every year and visit friends and ex-relatives. My son Jason visits his cousins in the London area as often as possible and travels to Spain, Greece, and other places from there.

I graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1979 where I attended ROTC prior to commissioning. I received my Masters of Arts degree in 1983 from Webster University. Following that, I attended post-graduate school at the University of Florida.

I spend lots of time doing family research and never find it boring. It has helped me understand that my craziness didn't just happen.

You may have been hard at work getting connected to family members who are already here and adding those who were missing. You probably have at least a few profiles that you manage now.

There's a fast and easy way to access those profiles using the Watchlist. So, this week we're going to look at How to Manage Your Watchlist.

Please let one of us know if you have questions! Just click my name above the comment, then ask in the comment section of my page. We want to help!

Thanks, WikiMessenger Cindy

You've been here for several weeks now! We hope your profiles are starting to come together and that you've enjoyed getting to know us a little better.

You're probably getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now. We know that collaboration isn't always easy. So, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions as that is the only way we gain knowledge!

Thanks, WikiMessenger Cindy

PS Good work so far! Have you noticed on your ancestor profiles on the bottom right is "Research" where you can get sources and more information? Give it a try sometime!

Hi Larry,

It's time for the next stop on your guided tour.

This week, we'd like to introduce you to the WikiTree community, including ways to get involved, and how to stay updated on new developments: How to Join in the Community.

I'm always happy to answer questions!

Carole

P.S. For more hits, consider editing your tags. Try replacing TILGHMAN_TILLMAN with a separate tag for each surname variation.

Hi Larry

You are now a confirmed member, and you can get started adding your family members. As we've said, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. So, we've put together a guided tour to help you learn how to use it. Your first stop is

How to Start Climbing Our Tree.

Tomorrow, you'll hear from a Mentor who will check in to see how you're doing and answer any questions you might have.

Next week, you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.

You can have fun with our Question of the Week in the G2G forum:

What tips do you have for interviewing relatives?

Welcome
