The following was emailed to Edward Trever by a person not logged in to wikitree in RE to William Shuttlesworth. "I've been able to trace William Shuttlesworth's birthplace to Vance, Ala., through this Social Security record: https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/12479467:60901?ssrc=pt&tid=17411265&pid=112491451326
"Vance was the location of a plantation owned by one of the first trustees of the University of Alabama, Marion Banks. Marion's grandnephew was L. Frazier Banks who was the superintendent of schools in Birmingham when Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth was trying to integrate the schools.
"I haven't been able to find documentation, but there's a good chance the Shuttlesworth family was enslaved by the Banks family, which adds another layer to the Civil Rights Era history of the two men. Here's more about the plantation, which is where my family is from, too: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Banks_Quarters%2C_Alabama_One_Place_Study"
