He changed his name to Shoemaker when he migrated to America, so Shoemaker should go in current last name field. It's been fixed. It is set properly now per WikiTree naming standards.
includes a detailed account of the life and westward migration of Bartholomew Shoemaker to Washington County, PA in 1786. There is no mention of a second Bartholomew, at least not one who married, emigrated to and died in America. It appears that Shoemaker-1192 and Shoemaker-671 should be merged. The later birthdate is likely an error, as Bartholomew would have been only 14 at his marriage in 1748. 'Tis better to merge than to perpetuate the confusion.
It looks like this is in my bailiwick because I am the individual profile manager. For the record, I adopted this as an orphaned profile back before the Palatine Migration Project had a project account, because I did not want to allow it to remain an orphan, and I never removed myself. :-0
I do agree that his last name at birth should be Schumacher. I will correct it before I resign as profile manager.
However, when I looked at the book pages (at https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=wu.89066302548&view=2up&seq=187 ) that are cited here as providing support for the profile data, I did not see any basis for his date and place of birth or the identity of the parents. Is there some other documentation I have not yet seen?
It is my understanding that Rudolph Schumacher and his descendents, including Bartholomew, had their last name "Anglicized" upon emigration to North America. This being done officially, their last name should remain Shoemaker, the Anglicized and official version. Their descendents, including myself, would find the reversion to Schumacher confusing and inconsistent with our genealogies.
LNAB stands for "Last Name At Birth". WikiTree rules require that we use the spelling that was used at their birth in that naming field. If they changed their name when they emigrated, that new name belongs in the "Current Last Name" field. So everyone born before they emigrated should have their name with the German spelling in the LNAB field and the name adopted in America in the Current Last Name field.. And all children born in America, after the name change can use the Anglicized name in both LNAB and Current Last Name fields.
William, check out Help:Name_Fields for information on the WikiTree policies on names. As we dig farther back into our ancestries, it is increasingly important to be aware of these policies. :-)
Bartholomew Shoemaker-1192 and Bartholomew Shoemaker-671 have the same parents and same death date, but different dates of birth. Were there two children of this name born to the same family? In that case (which seems likely), the first one apparently died and the wife and children should be transferred to the younger one. Or was there just one Bartholomew?
Family Tree cited uses another Ancestry Tree as source. That tree in turn uses yet another Ancestry tree as its source. And that tree uses the 1729 birth date along with several sources. (Although none for DOB.)
I am changing the birth date here and setting up the merge.

Only question is the correct LNAB. Shouldn't this LNAB be changed to Schumacher before the merge proceeds?
