Biography

Gerard was born in 1725. He passed away in 1770.

"Gerard Robinson was a mariner who traveled with the East India Company. His mother was a Wilton. Gerard returned to England, sold his ship and applied for a commission in the navy under General Wolfe. He became the commander of an army transport ship and accompanied the expedition up the St. Lawrence River to Quebec. After the fall of Wolfe, Gerard returned to England, resigned his commission and returned to merchant shipping.

He took a cargo to Virginia and settled in Falmouth.

He married Elizabeth Montieth of King George County, daughter of Thomas, a native of Scotland.

After their marriage, Gerard and Elizabeth settled in King George County on the Potomac, where ships could anchor.

Gerard died young and left a widow and 2 small children, John Montieth and Frances Wilton.'

His widow married John Grigsby of Fredericksburg.

Elizabeth's father Thomas Montieth fought for the pretender Charles against George II. He emigrated to America to escape prosecution and settled in King George County, where he grew tobacco. He married Phillis/Phyllis Narcissa Gallop and had at least two children, James and Elizabeth. After his death, his widow married _____ Elkin."
