Saverio was born in 1845 in Cosenza, in the province of Calabria, Italy. His parents are unknown, and were not recorded on his birth record. His birth was registered by Domenico Barone and he was given the name of Saverio Richichi di Cosenza.[1]
Saverio eventually moved to Belsito and married Carmine Turco, and together they had 4 children, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who carried on the Richichi name.
After having their children were adults, perhaps urged by the marriage of their son Raffaele in January of 1894, Saverio and Carmina finally made it offical, and got married in Paterno Calabro on 15 February 1894. Witnesses at their wedding were Vincenzo Terzi and Gaetano Florio.[2]. Interestingly, a note at the end of the marriage record indicates that this marriage legitimizes the status of their children born outside of marriage, according to the appropriate article of the Civil Code, after which all four children are named, just to be clear.
