John Reaugh was born in Antrim, Ireland in 1756 (some genealogies say 1747), the child of Samuel Reaugh and Eleanor Queary. His parents brought him to America when he was a child, settling in Cumberland, Pennsylvania, and he fought in the American Revolution, serving as a "private in Capt. James Parr's company, 1st regiment Pennsylvania Line" and "Private, Fifth Class, in Captain James Irvin's Company, Fifth Company, Second Battalion, Cumberland County Militia, on pay rolls dated August 22, 1780, and September 10, 1781; and on a list of soldiers of Cumberland County who received depreciation pay for their services." The family name is also spelled Rhea, Rea or Ray in various records.
He was married three times: M1 to Eleanor Fusary about 1775, with whom he had a son, David, b 1776.
M2 to Margaret Boyle, (1782) with whom he had four daughters and five sons:
M3 to Margaret Frazier, in Kentucky (1808)[1] with whom he had twin daughters and a son who died in infancy:
