Canadian actor who was one of the founding members of the prestigious Stratford Festival and who spent 37 seasons there. His was the voice of the HAL 9000 computer in 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) and its sequel 2010: The Year We Make Contact (1984).
Douglas was born March 13, 1928 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He was the son of James Rain, a rail yard switchman and his wife Mary Crichton McIntyre, a nurse and both born in Glasgow, Scotland.
His 1st marriage was to Lois Esther Shaw in 1951 until their divorce. They were the parents of 2 children.
His 2nd marriage was to actress Martha Henry in 1968 until their divorce. They were the parents of 1 child.
Douglas Rain died at the age of 90 on November 11, 2018 in St Mary's, Perth county, Ontario, just a short distance from his long-time home in Stratford, Perth county.
