Biography

First wife of Shadrach Potter, with whom she had ten children. This information comes from Janet Muff, a veteran grave photographer in Bennington and Rutland Co, who found pieces of the broken grave stone sufficient to identify it. The location of the graveyard is a private one now in the woods on land accessed with the landowner's permission, located off Carpenter Hill near the border of Pownal and Bennington VT. The town records give the name of the property as the William Potter farm -- Her father was named William Potter.

Daughter of William Potter and Alice Waite. . Wife of Shadrach Potter, with whom she had ten known children (for names, please see husband's {Findagrave} memorial). . NOTE: A previous transcription of Hannah Potter's gravestone from the Pownal Historical Society is as follows: "Mrs. Hannah Potter, wife of Shaderick. died Aug. 4. 1799. Age 34 years, 1 month and 5 days." An hour-long effort to locate and extract the top of this gravestone was unsuccessful, but a fragment was found giving one aspect of the date of death, "4th," and the larger section gives another aspect, "and 5 d[ays]" making it the likely gravestone of Hannah Potter.
