James was born in 1820. He passed away after 1850.
Research Notes
I have been unable to locate James Potter in the 1850 or 1860 US Federal Census except for the Slave Schedules. Further research is needed to determine where he actually lived during those census years. Because of that, his birth year and birth place are not known. An excerpt from the "Trial of Thomas Sims" (page 46) states "...James Potter, a rice planter, who lives ten or twelve miles from Savannah..." may help bring more facts about him to light.
1860 U.S. Federal Census: He was the executer for the estate of J F Potter and held about 98 slaves, all unnamed
