Biography

• Julia was born in 1826 in New York, daughter of Anselm Potter (1786–1848) and Julia Geraldine Turner (1796–1875).

• Married 1845 to Gilbert Jay Rice. Divorced about 1854.

• Julia moved in 1858 with her children to Kansas, where she worked as a school teacher. She was a Baptist from the age of thirteen, and transmitted this to her son Francis.

• She passed away in 1906 near Siloam Springs, Arkansas, and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery,
