Biography

Catherine Pitre was born about 1668 in Port Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France, daughter of Jean Pitre (abt. 1636–abt. 1689) and Marie Pesseley (abt. 1645–1707).[1]

She was 3 at the time of 1671 Census,[2] and 11 in 1678.[3]

Catherine (16) married Claude Bertrand (33) (born about 1651) in 1685 in Port-Royal, Acadie.[1] Their known children were:

  3. Unknown Bertrand (1690– ) .
  4. Jean Bertrand (abt. 1692–1757) .
  5. Marie Bertrand (abt. 1694–1758) .

  7. Pierre Bertrand (abt. 1698–bef. 1739) .
  8. Jacques Bertrand (abt. 1704–bef. 1766) .
  9. Angélique Bertrand (abt. 1705–1768) .
  10. Charles Bertrand (1706– )

In 1686, at Port-Royal, Catherine PITRE, aged 18, and her husband Claude BERTRAN [sic], aged 35, were recorded as living in Cap de Sable.[4]

Censuses:

  • 1693 at Port-Razoir (Rivière du Port-Royal) 4 children[5]
  • 1698 at Port-Royal with 5 boys and 1 girl.[6]
  • 1708 at Port-Razoir, Acadie with 5 boys and 2 girls.[7]

Catherine was deceased at the time her daughter Marie Bertrand wed Alexandre Comeau on 17 February 1722.[8]
