Biography

Callans Pettry was also known by the name Nick, he lived close by his father his entire lifetime. No record exists for a first marriage to Martha Emeline Webb. In some family records she is noted as Emma. A prior researcher familiar with Coal River families has four children being born into this household. The youngest Denna has a birth record listing both Callans and Mary E as parents. Mysteriously Walter Lee's birth record lists parents as Callans and Virginia. No birth records for Sidney nor William Edward are known. Callans and his cousin Ed were shot by their cousin Harvey Pettry for unknown reasons.

We are at the mercy of those who knew this family for its composition. Mary E Webb departs from this family and is not living with any of these children when she is remarried by the 1900 census.
