Biography

1776 Project
Corporal Roswell Olmsted served with 17th Continental Regiment (1776), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Roswell Olmsted is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A086310.

Birth year is 1733/34 due to date shift.

Baptized at W. Hartford, Conn., Mar. 17, 1734; d. Feb. 15, 1800; m. (1) Elizabeth Stanley; bap. May 2, 1736; dau, of Samuel and Anne (Bracey) Stanley; (2) Mrs. Hannah (Bidwell) Foote; b. Oct. 11, 1741; d. Apr. 15, 1804; dau. of Jonathon and Hannah (Hubbard) Bidwell, of Farmington, Conn., and widow of Samuel Foote. Roswell Olmsted served in the Revolutionary War.[1]

Husband of Elizabeth Stanley with whom had three children: Elizabeth (1758-died at less than one month old), Elizabeth (c.1760), and Lucy (1764).

Following Elizabeth's death, Roswell married Mrs. Hannah Bidwell, widow of Samuel Foote. Together, they had two sons, Elihu (1782), and Stanley (1784).

Roswell died 15 February 1800 and is buried next to his wife in the Torringford Cemetery, Torrington, Litchfield County, Connecticut.[2]
