Nelson the compliment of a public dinner. This was some twenty-five years ago. Now, hundreds of steamboats are employed in the trade of that river, and, great as the increase, they yet, do not increase fast enough for the commerce and productions of the people who inhabit the territory which it waters. Since then, too, steamboats have ascended the same river eighteen hundred miles and returned in safety, and without delay, to this port. St. Louis Repub.[6] John Nelson was born in 1761.[1] John (32) married Martha Patten (18) (born in 1775; daughter of James Patten) in 1794. Their children were: John died on September 25, 1845 in Louisville, Jefferson, Kentucky, aged 83.[1]
