Captain James Neal served with 13th Virginia Regiment (1777), Continental Army during the American Revolution.
James O'Neall was born in 1738, the son of Hugh and Anne (Cox) O'Neall. [1]James was a dedicated soldier in the American Revolution, serving as 8th Company Captain of the 13th Virginia Continental Regiment, under Major General Nathanael Green. [2][3][4][5][6][7]
After the war, James and his family were the first permanent white settlers in Parkersburg, West Virginia; he was the driving force behind the creation of Fort Neal, in 1785. [8] James passed away on February 7, 1822 in Parkersburg, West Virginia, and was buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg, West Virginia. [9]
