Research Notes

He first appears in 1870 in Warrick, Indiana in the household of Joseph Snyder. He was about 16 years old at the time and it's unclear as to what the relationship may have been between him and the Snyder family. It is possible he was simply a hired hand and also possible they were related (Aunt/Uncle, Cousins, etc.), however there does not appear to be any clear way to tell at this time.

There is a record of a William Muir on an 1860 Census that appears promising.^[1] He is found in the household of Jasper Muir and Martha Muir, who appear to be his parents. Note that the 1860 Census did not state clearly relationships, so it is difficult to be certain. However, the biggest conflict with this record is that on the 1900, 1910 and 1920 Censuses, he indicates that both his parents came from England. This 1860 Census reflects the "parents" being born in Kentucky. Because of these conflicts, it is very uncertain that this is his record, so additional research is needed to prove whether this is definitely his record, or if another record can be found that would be more accurate.
