Biography

Jesse was born in 1836. He was the son of John Miller and Caroline Unknown. According to Probate Papers (April 27, 1839) his father was living in Perry Centre, Genesee, New York (Perry is now in Wyoming County, New York) and therefore highly likely this is where Jesse was born. A military record for his brother Ruben or Reuben Miller, states he was born in Perry Centre.

This Jesse Miller, son of John, living in Poughkeepsie in 1850 should not be confused with Jesse Miller, son of Robert, living in nearby Fishkill in 1850. They were born two years apart and were first cousins but while there are many records for Jesse, son of Robert, records for Jesse, son of John, have been hard to locate.

From the obituary of John Miller: "He leaves a widow, four sons, Reuben, Arthur, Charles and a son at Waverly, Iowa, one daughter, Mrs. Loren Bailey of Rockford." Jesse was the fourth son, although he was born first he was obviously not as close to the family as the others. He likely died in Iowa after February 1888.
