Biography

George was born in 1905 and may have been named for his maternal grandfather George William Morrow. He was the son of Rufus McWhorter and Anza Morrow.

His maternal haplogroup is H11a2a1.

1910 census: Trigg Street, Millersburg, Bourbon County, Kentucky. Rufus Mcwhorter age 40 b. Arkansas, Blacksmith/Carriage Shop industry, wage earner, rents home, able to read and write; Anza Mcwhorter age 32 b. Kentucky, married 17 years, able to read and write; Fay M. Mcwhorter age 14 b. Kentucky; Lillian L. Mcwhorter age 12 b. Kentucky; Nellie Mcwhorter age 10 b. Kentucky; Imogene Mcwhorter age 7 b. Kentucky; George Mcwhorter age 5 b. Kentucky; Dorothy Mcwhorter age 2 b. Kentucky. [Emmett Mastine shows in a nearby household as age 16. {Ancestry has transcribed the last name as Martin}. This is probably the same Emmet Mastine who married daughter Lillian Louise and where the remaining McWhorter family moved after the death of Rufus in 1918.]

1918 April 30, The Bourbon News (Paris, Kentucky). "Mr. and Mrs. Rufus McWhorter and children, and Mr. and Mrs. Shirley Collins have returned to their homes in Lexington, after a visit to Mr. George W. Morrow, near Clintonville." His father Rufus passed away in October of 1918.

1920 census: Lexington, Ward 4, Fayette County, Kentucky. Emmet Mastin, Head, age 25 b. Kentucky; Louise Mastin wife [Anza's daughter] age 21 b. Kentucky, father's birthplace Arkansas, mother's birthplace Kentucky; Anza F. Mastin daughter age 1 b. Kentucky; Anza McWhorter, mother-in-law, widowed, age 43 b. Kentucky, sewing at clothing factory; Gean McWhorter, sister-in-law age 16 b. Kentucky; George McWhorter, brother-in-law, age 14 b. Kentucky; Dorothy McWhorter, sister-in-law, age 11 b. Kentucky; Virginia McWhorter, sister-in-law, age 8 b. Kentucky. This census was taken January 2nd.

George passed away from a childhood accident in May of 1920, strangling on a rope swing. His mother Anza had recently taken out an insurance policy on him with weekly payments of 25 cents per week. She had made only one payment when he died; she received about $500 for his loss.

His death certificate is listed under Charles William McWhorter, due to what is apparently a clerical error regarding his first name.
