Ann Shepard said: Nicknamed Long Tone because of his height. Believed buried in St. Josephs cemetery. Served in the Revolutionary War under Capt. Robert Erskine. West Milford Pioneer Families----"It was June, 1764 that Peter Hasenclever arrived in Macopin. He bought three Iron Works and 1500 acres of neighboring land for the London Company. He returned to London in the 1770's. Upon returning shortly thereafter, he brought over the first three families of Roman Catholic faith to work the mines. He called the Ringwood mine Charlottesburg after Queen Charlotte. Among those first three families were the Marions, Sehulsters and Strubles. They hailed from the Schwarzweld or Black Forest region of Baden (Bavaria). These families were the Pioneer founders of St. Joseph's Church (West Milford) congregation and located upon the neighboring heights of Macopin. Here they also built their huts and in time secured t he service of a Priest whom they called "Father Farmer". His name was Steinmeier, but he changed it to Ferdinand Farmer." Macopin was the Indian word "Maukpon" which meant the "Echo ".---from West Milford library.
