Captain John Mansperger served with York County Militia, Pennsylvania Militia during the American Revolution.
John Mansperger is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A073585.
John Mansperger was born on 28 January 1742 in Newberry Township, York County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the immigrant ancestor, "Marti" Johann Martin Mannsperger and his wife Margeretha Neusche.[1][2]
John married his first wife, Magdalena Maria Julius about 1771 in York County, Pennsylvania. They had twins, Daniel and Charlotte, baptized 9 May 1773.
John served in the American Revolution. He was a Captain in the 6th Company, Second Batallion, York County Militia, Pennsylvania. He was also the constable in 1778 for Newberry Township, York County, Pennsylvania.[3]
According to Mansperger's genealogy, in 1824, John and Rachel sold their land in Newberry, Pennsylvania, and began the move to Ohio, as Captain John had a scrip for 500 acres in Ohio. John was 83, and died along the way at the Ludwick Farm in Irwin, Pennsylvania, in 1825. The widow Rachel remained on the Ludwick Farm and raised her children. [1] However, this may not be entirely accurate or at least they were not able to sell all of their lands to private buyers, as this notice appeared in the newspaper under the heading "Sheriff's Sales":
As the estate of John Mansberger, a certain tract of patented land, containing 80 acres more or less, with a two story tavern house, and log barn thereon erected, situate in Newbury township, adjoining the lands of Peter Mathias, George Mansberger's heirs, George Etter and others. Also - The right title and interest of said John Mansberger, in a certain tract of land, containing 85 acres more or less, with a house and stable thereon erected, situate in Newbury township, aforesaid, adjoining the lands of Jonas Fetro, Frederick Byers and others.
