Maj. Josiah Libby was born in Scarborough on 16 Feb 1746^[1] .
      He married first, on 28 Feb 1769, Eunice Libby (d. 23 Mar 1776). He married second, on 28 Nov 1776, Elizabeth (Parcher) Foss.
      He received the homestead farm of his uncle-by-marriage Joseph Fogg for caring for him and his wife. This homestead, increased somewhat by purchase, he always occupied. He was a well-to-do farmer. He served in the Revolution as a Captain, and was afterward a Major in the militia.
      His second wife died 21 Jan 1810, and he married again, 19 June 1810, Mary, widow of John Jones, daughter of Deacon Chase of Saco. She was the mother, by a previous husband, of the first wife of Andrew Libby. She was subject to crazy periods and in one of them cut her throat. She died 16 July 1843. Her husband, Major Libby, had died nineteen years before, 1 Mar 1824. ^[1]
