Obituary:
Arley E. Lederer, 77, Baldwin, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ives Chapel United Methodist Church in Baldwin with the Rev. Kirby Hayes officiating. Burial will be in Sutton Cemetery west of Baldwin.
Mr. Lederer died Sunday, Feb. 23, 1992, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 10, 1914, on a farm four miles west of Baldwin, the son of Earl and Edith Newland Lederer. He grew up in the area and attended Independence rural high school west of Baldwin.
Mr. Lederer was a farmer, stockman and dairyman for most of his life. He also owned and operated a milk transport business for a few years and worked as a truck driver and equipment operator for Palmyra Township and Douglas County. He retired in the late 1960s, after which he enjoyed raising horses.
Mr. Lederer was a longtime member of Ives Chapel United Methodist Church and a former member and past chairman of the Prairie City school district. In earlier years he was involved in plays and played the fiddle at dances at the Farmers Co-op in west Baldwin. He also was a supporter of the Douglas County 4-H Club for many years.
He married Naomi Purvis on Feb. 20, 1936, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Linda Lou Michael, Wellsville; a son, Robert, Albuquerque, N.M.; two brothers, John, Ottawa, and Glen, Baldwin; three sisters, Thelma Randel, Baldwin, Doris Blevins, Eudora, and June Pine, Lawrence; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
