Excerpt from Mary Elinor Lazenby's "Lazenby, some account of families in the United States which bear the name:"[1]
JOHN LAZENBY
(Robert-Robert)
"John, son of Robert and Lucy Harding Lazenby, was born in Maryland about 1750. His name is in the manuscript list of Maryland Revolutionary Militia in the Maryland Historical Society at Baltimore. He was the executor of his father’s estate and as such transferred Wolf's Den to Samuel Bonnifield (Bonifant) in 1787. In 1788 he appears on the records of Richmond County, Georgia, as acquiring land there, where his brother Elias had preceded him. In Georgia, among his descendants, he is known as Jones Lazenby. I therefore refer to him as John Jones Lazenby. In the deed of transfer to Samuel Bonnifield in 1787 his wife's name is given as Deborah. The Georgia homestead fell later in Warren County, and is on Hart's Creek, about ten miles north of Camak.
"The singular recurrence of the name Jones in this generation of Lazenbys lends interest to the will of Samuel Jones, on record at Upper Marlborough, Prince Georges County, Maryland, 1793/1803. He mentions sons Richard Simmons and Samuel and Daughters Mary, Catherine, Deborah and Martha. As will be seen later, John Lazenby (Robert-Robert) had a son named Richard Simmons and a grandson names Samuel Jones, and his wife was Deborah. Also, as will be seen, Elias Lazenby (Robert-Robert) married Martha Jones in Maryland, and they had a son Samuel. This suggests that John Lazenby and his brother Elias may have married sisters, Deborah and Martha Jones."
