Birth

Daniel Lane, Jr. was born February 25, 1750, in Abington, Plymouth, Massachusetts, a son of Daniel Lane and Lydia (Towers) Lane. [1]

Marriage

Married First (1) Hannah Andrews. On February 20, 1774, in Abington [2]

Military Service

1776 Project
Sergeant Daniel Lane served with 1st Regiment, Bristol County Militia, Massachusetts Militia during the American Revolution.

Corp Lane served in the Revolutionary War with the Minute Men. [5] and the Massachussetts Militia. [5]

  • Lexington Alarm of 19 Apr 1775, as a Private in the company of Captain William Reed, under the command of Colonel John Bailey. Then enlisted 27 Apr 1775
  • He also served in Captain Edward Cobbs' company, in both Major Cary's Regiment and Colonel Mitchell's Regiment. [5].
  • Daniel attained the rank of Corporal, in the service of Captain William Reed, when under the command of General John Thomas' Regiment. [5]
  • Sergeant, in Capt Alexander Foster's co., Col Thomas Carpenter's Carpenter-5459 1st Bristol regt [A] ; svc from27 Jul to 12 Aug 1778 on an expedition to Rhode Island. [5]
  • Corporal, in Capt Samuel Robinson's co., Col Isaac Dean's regt; marched 4 Aug 1780; discharged 8 Aug 1780 [5]

Corporal Lane is recognized by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as Ancestor #A068565. (Note: Daniel's father served as a member of the Committee of Correspondence, Safety and Inspection, and is Ancestor #A132428.)

Applications for membership in the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution have been made by the descendants of his daughter, Lydia, who married Elias Pool; and of his sons, John, who married Elizabeth "Betsey" Reed; and Isaiah, who married Charlotte Joy.

Death

Daniel Lane, Esq., died in Abington October 23, 1831, age 80.[6] and is buried in Lane Cemetery, Rockland, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, USA [7]

Research Notes

A. Not sure why his records list him as a Corporal, when he did attain the rank of Sergeant in 1778. He reverted to Corporal during service in 1780. [5]

Lane-12479 and Lane-8052 do not represent the same person because: different people, removed father
Lane-12479 and Lane-8052 appear to represent the same person because: Daniel Lane born 25 Feb 1750/51 was the son of Daniel Lane and Lydia Tower. He was born at Abington 1 Aug 1750/51.<span id='HTHM'></span>History of the Town of Hingham, Massachusetts (The Town of Hingham, Massachusetts, 1893) Vol II, p.417

Please correct by either a merge or by removing one of the Daniels from the parents Daniel and Lydia.
