Gladys Knight, known as the "Empress of Soul", is an American award-winning singer, songwriter, actress, businesswoman, and author. She is known for her recordings with the group Gladys Knight & the Pips.
Gladys Maria Knight was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1944. She is the daughter of Merald Knight Sr. and Elizabeth Woods.
She has been married four times and has three children.
