Biography

Earl was born in 1921 on Ashland Plantation in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana.[1] His obituary notes that he was delivered by midwife Ante Pashchanni, but oddly, doesn't mention his mother, although I've confirmed her identity, and she was also the mother of the rest of his ten siblings. It also notes that he "worked the swamp with his brothers trapping mink, otter, muskrats, raccoons, and alligators while they logged and sawmilled cypress with their father William King." He had a "great passion for the outdoors; hunting, fishing, and shrimping." In 1940, he's listed as 18 years old and still living in Ashland, working as a "dredge man". He had a sixth grade education.[2]

In 1942, he registered for the WWII draft.[3] He lived in Houma and lists no employer. He was quickly drafted, and on 19 Jul 1942, he enlisted in the army as a private in New Orleans "for the duration of the War or other emergency, plus six months, subject to the discretion of the President or otherwise according to law". [4] His civilian occupation is listed as "Semiskilled occupations in production of beverages" on one record and his wartime occupation is "skilled occupations in building aircraft" .[5] His obituary states that he served in the European Theatre as a medic, landed in France shortly after D-Day and helped with the liberation, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. It also states that he helped liberate the German concentration camps and was honorably discharged.

Earl's first wife was Bobbie Hanson of Comanche, Texas.[6] In 1944, Earl King, Jr. was born in Erath, Texas. [7]

It seems he and Bobbie divorced in June 1956 in Alabama.[8]

Earl married Gardeline Sharp in Gulfport, Mississippi, in 1962.[9] In 1965 he fathered a daughter with Annie Fauver, Katrina Lynn King. They did not have a relationship until Katrina was an adult. Earl's last wife was Eunice "Honey" Martin until his death.

His obituary also mentions that in 1970 he moved to Morgan City to join a family-owned oilfield trucking business (King Trucking). He was active in oilfield industry related organizations and served on the State Mineral Board.

He passed away in 2013 at the age of 91. He was the only survivor remaining among his siblings.
