Biography

Richard King was born in about 1832 in England. He was the son of Richard (and possibly Elizabeth or Ann) King.

Richard married Ellen Fiven in 1857 in New Zealand.

They had eight children.

In 1866, Richard suffered an accident resulting in the loss of a hand.[1]

Ellen died in 1895 aged 59, and was buried at St John's Church in Wakefield, Tasman, New Zealand.

Richard died in Wakefield on 6 Jan 1909, aged 77, and was buried at St John's Church in Wakefield, Tasman, New Zealand.

Research Notes

He had a nephew Mr W J Verry, blacksmith of Waihi (it's not clear whether this was through his wife or himself).[2]

Father

An 1863 newspaper advertisement states that Richard King senior of Wakefield will henceforth not be responsible for debts of his wife Ann.[3]

Richard King late of Wakefield died at Nelson on 1 Dec 1876, aged 88, giving a birth year of 1788.[4] But the best match I could see for Richard junior in emigration records was a sailing in 1841, which gave his father Richard's age as 39, giving a birth year of 1802 (he was a carpenter and wheelwright, and his wife isn't named in the record.)

Richard was born about 1831 in Hampshire, England.[5] He was the son of Richard King and Elizabeth (Scutter) King
