Obituary
Freeman's Journal (Sydney, NSW : 1850 - 1932), Thursday 25 September 1924, page 23
SISTER MARY COLUMBA KING.
A life devoted to the humble but strenuous work of moulding the minds of the little ones, forming them to habits of virtue, and training them to fulfil the end for which they were created — to know and to serve God: such is the life of many a good nun; and such a one, in very truth, was the late Sister Mary Columba King, who passed to her eternal reward on the 17th inst. at St. Joseph's , Hospital, Auburn.
A native of New South Wales, Sister Mary Columba was the daughter of William and Marie King, of 'Nyrang,' Canowindra, her only surviving brother being Mr. Roderick King, of 'Tara,' Wyalong,
Miss King entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity in 1881, and worked successively in several houses of the Order. Before her health finally gave way, some four or five years ago, she was stationed at Mount St. Patrick's, Paddington, where she made many friends, especially among the poor, many of whom will bless the memory of the gentle, kind-hearted nun.
Sister M. St. Rose, of Mount St. Patrick's, Paddington, is a niece of the deceased.
The funeral took place on Friday, the 19th inst. The Rev. Father Byrne, P.P., of Auburn, assisted by the Rev. Father Clarke, officiated at the graveside. Many relatives and friends of the deceased were also present. May she rest in peace. [1]
