Samuel married Elizabeth Gilson on Feb 2, 1736 in Groton MA.They resided in Groton MA. Children include Joseph b 1737, Ephraim b. 1741,Samuel b. 1743, Elizabeth b. 1745, Mary b. 1748, Eunice b. 1750, Ruth b. 1753, Eunice b. 1758 and Jonas b. 1760. The New England Kemps include Sarah "Sally" Kemp baptized in 1764 who married Eleazer Nutting. [1] Sarah Kemp family search records [2] It is possible but uncertain that Elizabeth Kemp (abt.1762-1841), wife of Luke Woodbury was also their daughter born about 1762. See above link for more information about this.

The marriage record lists "Samuel III" and "Elizaborth" "Gillson"[3] In the original Groton MA birth records. Samuel, husband of "Elizaborth" and father of Joesph is written as Samuel the third. [4] According to "Middlesex County, Massachusetts, Geneology and History (source below) Samuel Kemp born 1716 is Samuel 3rd. DAR documents list Samuel Kemp born 1716 with no suffix, and his son Samuel as Samuel Jr. [5] The US Census records list both Samuel Kemp and Samuel Kemp Jr. living in Groton in 1790 and 1800. In 1810 only one Samuel Kemp is listed, presumably the elder died after 1800 and the son dropped the Jr. suffix. Family search data and DAR record say Samuel Kemp married Lydia Phillips at Pepperell MA in 1759. However, Groton Vital records show Jonas Kemp was born in 1760 to Samuel and Elisabeth Gilson. It is unproven and unclear that this Samuel married Lydia. [6] [7]
