Nathaniel was Lieutenant Colonel of the militia raised in Cumberland County, and was on the pay roll as field and staff officer, 1779. He received by will of his father, over 400 hundred acres of land in five several tracts. [2]
Nathaniel was second in command of the disastrous Bagaduce Expedition of 1779 led by Col. Jonathan Mitchell.
“He served in the French and Indian War, serving as
ensign in Capt. Dominicus Jordan's Snowshoe com-
pany in 1744, in the same captain's Training Company
in 1757, and was first major and lieutenant colonel of
the 1st. Cumberland County militia regiment in
1776, and later, and served in this regiment in 1779,
also commanded the militia at Falmouth Neck after
the discharge of this regiment.”
