Biography

John was born in 1923. He passed away in 2008.

He lived and grew up in Jarrow with his parents, he started working in a shipyard as a boiler caulker, then after a few years he joined the Royal Air Force. He married Pearl Thompson in 1953 she was working in the NAFFI at the time. They then had Brian in 1954 and Jack got posted to Celle in Germany. From there he got another posting to RAF Innsworth, Gloucestershire and Audrey was born in 1957 and Stuart born in 1958.

After this the family went to Akrotiri, Cyprus for a couple of years during the EOKA crisis. in late 1959 the family ended up back in the U.K. at RAF Locking, near Weston-Super-mare. David was born in 1963.

When Jack got posted to ADEN for 12 months the family was put in temporary accommodation in the north west, Inverness drive, Silloth, Cumbria. From here the family went to RAF Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire, and after about 12-15 months went to RAF Swinderby, Lincolnshire. Andrew and Leslie were born whilst at Swinderby. They then moved to RAF Hemswell, near Caenby corner, Lincolnshire, the children went to local school in Kirton Lindsey.

Again, after a relatively short stay they moved back to RAF Swinderby, the children had another school to deal with, Robert Pattinson, North Hykeham. It was whilst at Swinderby that 'Jack' was 'Demobbed' from the Air Force. They decided that they should stay in the area, and as a consequence moved to '2 &3 The Cottages' in Aubourn. J ack found employment as a security officer in Lincoln for a large foundry. He used to cycle there and back for about 9 months until he got his driving licence and a car. The family then had a move to Bracebridge Heath just south of Lincoln to 36 Main Avenue, where they stayed for a 25+ years.

Jack & Pearl moved one last time to Churchill crescent in Bracebridge Heath. The family grew up and left home to start their own respective families. Most of the children stayed in and around Lincoln, but Brian moved area, first to Luton, Bedfordshire and got married to Denise, then they moved to Melksham, Wiltshire, to be closer to their children.
