Marlo Thomas is an actress, producer, and author best known for her starring role on television's That Girl
Marlo was born Margaret Julia Jacobs, on 21 Nov 1937, in Detroit, Michigan. She is the daughter of actor Amos Jacobs better known as Danny Thomas and his wife Rose Cassaniti. In the 1950 census at age 12, she was listed as the daughter of Amos J Jacobs in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California, United States.[1] She is known professionally as Marlo Thomas. Marlo is married to Phil Donahue.
Marlo appeared in a number of television shows and theater productions. Her performance in an unsuccessful pilot television show resulted in her proposing a show about a young woman who leaves home, moves to New York City, and struggles to become an actress. That idea became the television show That Girl. She played Ann Marie who struggled with different temporary jobs while seeking a Broadway career. That Girl was one of the first television shows to focus on a working, single woman who did not live with her parents, and it paved the way for many shows to come. Thomas was only the fourth woman to produce her own series.
She serves as the National Outreach Director for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, which was founded by her father, Danny Thomas.
