Arthur was born on 17 January 1839 in Weisdale, SHI, SCT. He was the son of Oliver Hunter and Elspeth Thomson.[1]
Arthur married Elspeth Thomson on 1 January 1833 in Tingwall, SHI, SCT.
In 1841 Arthur (age about 1) was living in Resident at Housigarth, Weisdale.[2]
In 1851 Arthur (age about 11) was living in Resident at Kergord, Weisdale.[2]
Went to sea at the age of 12 as the cabin boy on a Greenland whaler. In the early 1860s he was a crew member of "The Great Britain", under the command of Captain Gray of Unst, along with the Peterson brothers who were first and second officers.
Emigrated with his wife on "Gainsborough" in 1867.
When Arthur was 28 he married Elizabeth Thomson on 24 October 1867 in Bixter, Aithsting, SHI, SCT.
