Biography

Linda (Lindy) Hull Stuart was born on 3 March 1962, in Wichita Falls, Texas[1]. She is the oldest of three children and has one brother and one sister. Lindy, her parents and one sibling have all taken DNA tests that confirm their family relationships. Her maternal DNA connection is described as "1 degree 50.00% X-Chromosome DNA 50.00%". Her paternal DNA connection is also described as "1 degree 50.00% X-Chromosome DNA 50.00%". The DNA connection with her sibling is described as "2 degrees 50.00% X-Chromosome DNA 50.00%". All DNA tests were done via Ancestry DNA.

Her parents were both in the U.S. Air Force and Lindy grew up moving around the country. She is a graduate of Milford High School, Milford, DE. She attended the University of Delaware and graduated in 1984 with a degree in Spanish and two minors, Italian and Economics.

Lindy worked for the National Park Service for three years after her college graduation. She was a Park Ranger at the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park in Texas, Fort Sumter National Monument in South Carolina and Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.

Lindy is a veteran of the United States Army, serving over 21 years before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. She spent time at Fort Bragg (NC), Fort Huachuca (AZ), Yongsan (ROK), Schofield Barracks (HI) and Fort Hood (TX). She deployed several times, including Operation Just Cause in Panama, Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia and Iraq, and Operation Joint Forge in Bosnia. She also supported a peacekeeping mission for the the United Nations, serving in the desert of Western Sahara, Africa as part of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO). Her military service went from 1987 - 2008.

Lindy went to the U.S. Army Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia. She pinned on her Airborne wings on 16 July 1990, as part of 1st Platoon, Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment. She spent a few months on airborne status while stationed at Fort Bragg, prior to deployment to SW Asia. She only has eight combat jumps, which is more than her husband has.

Lindy met her husband while they were attending their Officer's Advanced Course. They were married in 1994, at Arlington Baptist Church, in Arlington, GA. They were married about a month after Lindy returned from Africa. The wedding was planned while she was deployed, and much of the planning was done over the Ham Radio (HF). Lindy and her husband now have three sons, all of whom are following in their parents path by electing military service.

Hello Lindy,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Pre-1700 ancestors can be shared by many descendants, so collaboration is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Sources are very important here on Wikitree, especially on Pre-1700 profiles. It is how we show where we got the info and helps others find it too. Find out more about sources here and more detailed info here.

The United States project may fit your research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find other possibilities. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

If you have any questions, click reply below this message and I will get back to you.

Peggy,

Thanks for telling me about the project. Most of my research does not touch on Pre-1700 profiles. I have one line (Underwood) that I know goes back that far, even into the 1400s, but I am not really doing any research that far back. I’m really just trying to track my ancestors and make sure that I have copies of the source documentation for the individuals. I have an account on Ancestry.com also, and there are just too many mistakes and circular reporting to trust anything there if it is not backed up with concrete sources.

Thanks, Lindy

Keep sourcing, Lindy! That's great. Keep the US project in the back of your mind, in case you get to the point of wanting to join.

Peggy, I've found a new line of mine that is Pre-1700. I think most of the work is already done, but it is exciting to see what is out there. I found out that I have an ancestor who came over on the Mayflower. Her name is Constance Hopkins. I am working back from her to see how we are related and make sure all the source documentation is there.

Hi there, Lindy,

Sounds great - exciting discoveries! Check out the Mayflower project. The projects often have lists of useful resources as well as helpful members to ask for advice. Collaboration is key.

Peggy,

Thank you for letting me know that I needed to make changes to my profile. I have corrected the biography portion, but I'm not sure what to do about the profile info before the biography, where it lists my parents. I see them listed by name in the public view. Am I only seeing them in this view because I manage their profiles? Or do I need to just delete their information entirely? They each have their own profile.

Thanks, Lindy

Hi Lindy,

Your parents are members so they have control over their privacy level. Since you are listed as profile managers of their profiles, you too can change their privacy levels. Go to the privacy tab on each of their profiles and change the level, if you want to. (I would recommend this.)

Once you do this, you can click on the Public view to see what info is available when the public view the profile. (you can do this on your own profile too). Make sense? Let me know.

Hi lindy, You do not need to be on a trusted list to make changes or additions to an open profile. (Padlock at top right hand) as you can see yours is closed, Margaret Merritts is open.
