Narrative: Samuel came to Belfast, Maine from Londonderry, New Hampshire in 1771 and resided in that part of East Belfast which later became Searsport. He lived there for the rest of his life except for two years during the Revolution when the town was abandoned due to threats from the British. During this two year period he resided in Bristol, Maine with his family. He was the second town clerk of Belfast and active in church and school affairs ^[1]

The 1800 Census for Belfast, Hancock County, Maine shows two by the name of Samuel Houston originating from Londonderry. Both men were of age over 45. One family consisted of two males and no females; the other designated as Samuel Jr. consisted of 5 males and 5 females (NEHGR, 105:Oct 1951:284). ^[5]

Revolutionary War Soldier: On 20 Jul 1776, Samuel Houston was commissioned Captain, Fifth Company, Penobscot Regiment, Massachusetts Militia. The Penobscot Regiment was commanded by Colonel Josiah Brewer. ^[6][7]
