Israel Higgins was born on Oct. 3, 1728, to Israel and Ruth (Brown) Higgins.[1] On Feb. 20, 1752, he married his first wife, Hannah Arnold, who died soon after, as inferred by Israel's marriage on Feb. 15, 1753, to Elizabeth Aiken, daughter of Henry and Margaret (Woods) Aiken, with whom he had ten children, all born at Middletown, Connecticut:[1]
"Israel Higgins served in the French and Indian War and in the Revolution. He was a private in Capt. Elijah Robinson's co., of Col. John ELy's Connecticut regt. in 1777. His name appears on a "billeting roll" of the Company with remarks,-- "Enl. June 16, 17_., Marched from home July 22, 17_. No. of days billeted himself, 37." He resided in Middle Haddam parish, town of Middletown (lated Chatham), Conn. George Higgins was appointed administrator on estate of Israel Higgins April 1, 1793. Distribution to heirs Jan. 14, 1794."
