Biography

Brenton was the son of Samuel Hall and Anne Law. He was baptized Apr 16 1738 in Congregational Society, Cheshire, Connecticut.

He married twice.

His first wife was Lament Collins.[1] Their children were[2]:

2. Collins Hall 1766–1849
3. Samuel Hall 1768–1795
4. Lucy Hall 1771–1791
5. Sarah Hall 1774–1792
6. Lament Hall 1776–1810
7. Oliver Hall 1779–1837

His second wife was Abigail Baldwin[3] who was the mother of Rebecca Guy, wife of Brenton's son Collins Hall. Abigail and Brenton's children were:

1. Augustus Hall 1785
2. Anna Guy Hall 1792 - 1880
3. Ira Hall 1787-1862

Brenton inherited a very large property in the present town of Meriden. Was a founder of Meriden and a man of influence in that locality. During the Revolution, he was an ardent patriot rendering the cause substantial pecuniary assistance, but declining political preferment for himself. He was always spoken of as a kind-hearted hospitable man satisfied with a quiet life on his paternal acres, From 1794 to 1803, the records show he was very active and influential in having the town of Meriden "set off" from Wallingford. There was for a number of years a strong contest against this division. His former residence in Meriden is still standing. It is said to have been built by his father Rev. Samuel Hall about 1760.

Brenton died Nov 25 1820[4] and is buried in Broad Street Cemetery, Meriden, New Haven, Connecticut.[5]
