John Grant was born in Dumfries, Scotland in 1751. He married Anne Welche or Walsh (Christie in marriage record), widow, in 1784 at the Anglican Church in Quebec. [1]They had 2 children. He later married Anne Thébault. They had 12 children. John passed away in 1826. [2]
Arrive à Belledune vers 1789 (requête pour des lots de terre au NB) John Grant, originaire d'Écosse, émigre en Amérique durant 1775. Passe par New York. Grenadier sous le général Burgogne et dans les troupes de Rangers. Après la guerre de l'ndépendance, décide de rester au Canada. Arrive en Gaspésie sur le bateau Brig Polly le 9 juin 1784. Le 16 janvier 1789 il est installé à Belledune. Reçoit des terres mais très mécontent, croyant que les français était mieux servi en Gaspésie.[3]
