Alexander was born in 1864. He passed away in 1937. He was a Scottish businessman, biscuit manufacturer and philanthropist. He is best known for being managing director of McVitie's, developing the recipe of the McVitie's digestive biscuit, and for giving an endowment of £200,000 to help establish the National Library of Scotland.
