When John Getchell was born on April 25, 1719, in Scarborough, Maine, his father, John, was 28 & his mother, Elizabeth (Whitaker) Gatchall, was 21. He married Mary Barbour on November 7, 1742, in Falmouth, Maine.[1] They had 16 children in 23 years. John served as a Sargent in Revolutionary War.He died in 1790 in Falmouth, Maine, at the age of 71, and was buried in Cumberland, Maine.

John was born in 1719. He is the son of John Getchell and Elizabeth Whitaker. He married Mary Barbour in 1742.[2] He passed away in 1800. [3]

The family of Samuel Getchell of Salisbury, Mass.[4] has the following: JOHN4 GETCEELL, JR., (John,3 Samuel,2 Samuel1) was born at Scarboro, Me., 25 Apr. 1719. On 7 Nov. 1742 he married MARY BARBOUR of Brunswick. He served in the colonial militia in 1751, being sergeant in his father's company, and later in the Revolution.
On 23 June 1768 he bought of the Kennebec Proprietors land on the east side of the Kennebec River in what is now known as Sidney. He held many important town offices in Vassalboro, being the largest land-owner there, and residing at what is still known as Getchell's Corner.
