Biography

Walter was born in Nayland Suffolk on 29 October 1860. He is the son of John Gant and Sarah Rattle (maiden name yet unsourced).

At the time of the 1881 Census, Walter age 20 was working as a railway porter. From November 1882 until February 1906, Walter was a member of the London Metropolitan Police, much of that time as a Station Sergeant.

Walter married twice during his life. When Walter married Catherine Amelia Penson in 1898 in Poplar London we believe he was a widower with 3 children from his prior marriage. (See Note from Profile Manager below) The 1911 census confirms that no children came from the union of Catherine and Walter.

Walter passed away in Surrey in March 1929. He was interred at St Mary the Virgin Church Worplesdon on 12 March 1929. While we do not know the circumstances, wife Catherine appears to have died at the same time and she too was interred on 12 March 1929.
