Biography
Sarah Davis was born around 1753, if her age (90) was correctly stated in her 1843 widow's pension application. This would make her in her late twenties at her marriage to Thomas Mead (Maide) on Nov. 7, 1781 at Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Sarah's social status was a step or two higher than that of her husband.
The Meade family moved to Montgomery County, Virginia in 1787. Their residence became part of Wythe County in 1790, where they lived until 1815. However, from 1797 through 1801 they also maintained a residence in Pittsylvania County near Sarah's siblings.
Sarah spent the final decades of her life in Pike County, Indiana. Her eldest son lived in Hendricks County, Indiana and died in 1842. Her sons Graves, Robert, and Thomas lived in Pike County but all three died before she did. Her widowed daughter Catherine passed through Pike County in 1835 with her children, on their way to Iowa County, Wisconsin.
Sarah Mead died sometime in or after 1844. She is buried in the same cemetery as her husband, in an unmarked grave.
