Preston was born in 1908. He attended the Berkshire School for one year and subsequently graduated from the Noble and Greenough School in 1927. He was a member of the class of 1931 at Harvard College. During WWII he rose to the rank of Major in the USMC. He practiced architecture in Woodstock, Vermont, first as a partner in the firm Helmer and Cole, and later in single practice. He passed away in 1996.
