Reuben was a lumberman and shipbuilder and joined the American Revolution in 1775. He served by supplying boats for the Expedition to Quebec and as a guide for Colonel Benedict Arnold. Reuben Colburn was never paid for his work, despite promises made by Arnold and Washington; the expedition ruined him financially...

He passed away in 1818.
