Biography

George was born in about 1820. He was enumerated, called "Platt," living in the household of Joel Cashion with two young Elizabeth and Muriva (Minerva), ages three and two respectively, in the 1850 census for Iredell North Carolina. Family historians recount that these were his daughters. It can be assumed that Plott had been married before he married Elizabeth Cleever in 1851. The name of his first wife is unknown. Family lore has it that these two daughters moved to Texas; both are said to have married into the Josey famliy and moved to Texas.[1]

In 1851, he married Elizabeth Cleever in Iredell.[2]

In 1860, called "Plott," he was enumerated as living in Iredell County as head of household. He had a wife named Elizabeth and children Sarah, Henry, and Christopher (aka James Christopher). There was no reference to Elizabeth or Muriva.[3] In 1870, called "Platt," he was still residing in Iredell County North Carolina, with wife Elizabeth and children Henry, James C (middle name Christopher), Adam (later named Adam A), Eva and Fannie. There was no mention of children named Elizabeth, Muriva, or Sarah.[4] By 1880, he was still in Iredell County, called "Plott," still married to Elizabeth and living with children Adam A., Rosana, Fannie and Allace (it is correctly spelled Alice.[5][6] This time his birth date year is shown as 1827. By 1900, he was called "Plott," and was living alone as a widower, with a birth year of 1820.[7]

He passed away after 1901 and is buried, possibly in a family plot near his oldest son Henry, in Gastonia North Carolina.[8]
