2nd Lieutenant Joshua Brackett served with 11th Massachusetts Regiment (1777), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Joshua Brackett was born on 7 June 1723 in Portland, Cumberland, Massachusetts. His parents were Zachariah Brackett (1680 - 1751) and Hannah (Rolfe) Brackett (1692 - ).[1][2][3]

He lived 93 years in the midst of warfare and took part in all wars with one exception in which Maine engaged. He was 52 years old in the Revolution. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in Captain Joshua Wentworth's Company, Colonel Ebenezer Francis' Regiment. His name appears in pay abstract dated Watertown, August 1776. He served in 1779 in the ill-fated Penobscot Expedition in Captain William Cobb's company, Colonel Jonathan Mitchell's Cumberland County Regiment.[3][5][6]

Joshua died at age 90 on 19 Jun 1817 in Greenland, Rockingham, New Hampshire, United States.[7]

Mother's Maiden name was Hannah Libby and NOT Hannah Rolfe

This, per Brackett Genealogy, Descendants of Anthony Brackett of Portsmouth and Captain Richard Brackett of Braintree with Biographies of the Immigrant Fathers, their Sons, and Others of Their Prosperity, by Herbert I. Brackett, (1907), pages 84-85.

HOWEVER:

The Drake Family of New Hampshire, published in 1962 by the New Hampshire Historical Society, at page 35, and in reference to Zachariah Brackett, states: "b. 20 Jan. 1682; his estate admin. at Ipswitch, Mass., Oct 1755: m. 1st, 1 Dec 1707 Newbury, Mass., Hannah Rolfe. He m. 2nd., int. 16 Feb1741, Mary Ross; b. Ireland. Res.1719 Deering; after 1741, Ipswitch, Mass." So there we are. Can anyone verify the marriage in Newbury, Mass on 1 Dec 1707 ?
